Operation the year

International Sea Life Explorers heads to the south of Gran Canaria this year. Discover our scientific diving expeditions, monitoring, and observations of vulnerable marine ecosystems.

Expeditie Gran Canaria

Our central mission of the year focuses on the diverse dive sites on the south coast of Gran Canaria. The team led by Carlo Everaerts, Harald Swillen, and Gert Dewit brings together specialized divers and marine biologists to accurately map the specific volcanic seabeds and reef formations.

Monitoring and Observing Marine Life

During every dive, we conduct in-depth checks and observations of the local marine fauna and flora. We study the health of pelagic species, bottom dwellers, and reef structures to gain insight into the impact of human activity and climate change on these subtropical waters.

Fieldwork and documentation

Through visual documentation and methodical data collection, ISLE captures valuable data. This operation forms the basis for future conservation projects and educational programs, reinforcing our commitment to the preservation of oceanic ecosystems.
